There were 11 counties in Pennsylvania during the Revolution.

Following the land purchase from the Indians at Fort Stanwix in 1784, the western boundary of Northumberland County was extended to the Allegheny River, making the area over 12,000 square miles – larger than 8 of our present day states. What would become Clinton County was included in this area.
